TORONTO, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The NHL fined New York Rangers forward Sean Avery $2,500 and Toronto forward Darcy Tucker $1,000 for a pregame altercation Nov. 10.
The league fined the Rangers $25,000 and the Maple Leafs $10,000 for their players' actions.
"The unprofessional conduct of Avery in initiating this altercation, less than a week after being involved in an incident in the pregame warm-up against New Jersey, is the basis for this discipline," said NHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "Tucker also bears some responsibility for his inappropriate response. Both organizations must also be held accountable for the players' actions."
Tucker and Avery exchanged words during warm-ups of the Rangers' eventual 3-2 shootout win. The two also fought in the first period of the game.
