Garnett, Ming are NBA players of the week

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Boston's Kevin Garnett and Houston's Yao Ming were selected the NBA's players of the week, the league said Monday.

Garnett, the league's Eastern Conference player of the week, averaged 22.7 points and 15.3 rebounds a game as the Celtics won all three of their games last week. He had 27 points and 19 rebounds in a 22-point win over Atlanta. Garnett's 15.8 rebounds a game lead the NBA. Boston at 5-0 is off to its best start since 1987-88.

Ming, the Western Conference player of the week, averaged 27.8 points and 10.5 rebounds a game while helping the Rockets to three victories in four games. In the wins -- coming against San Antonio, Milwaukee and Charlotte -- Ming connected on more than 61 percent of his shots.

Also considered for the NBA player awards were: Cleveland's Zydrunas Ilgauskas and LeBron James; Detroit's Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace; Phoenix's Leandro Barbosa, Shawn Marion and Steve Nash, and Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Kaman.
