COL BKB: UCLA 69, Portland St. 48

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Kevin Lowe scored 22 points and Josh Shipp had 20 Friday night, as second-ranked UCLA cruised past Portland State, 69-48.

Lowe, the Bruins' 6-10 center, pulled down 12 rebounds. UCLA opened its season by shooting 52 percent.

UCLA owned a 36-17 halftime lead and built as much as a 26-point cushion in the second half.

The Bruins are coming off a Final Four appearance in a 30-6 season. Coach Ben Howland, in his fifth season on the job, needs just eight more wins to reach 100 at the school.

Jeremiah Dominguez led Portland State with 11 points. The Vikings are 4-37 all-time against teams from the Pacific-10 Conference.
