LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Stephen Ames Sunday fended off Tim Clark to win the PGA’s Children's Miracle Network Classic at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., by one stroke.

In the fourth and final round, Ames needed a 4-under 68 to avert a playoff against Clark, who closed with a 6-under 66.

Ames' winning total was 17-under 271.

"It's nice to be back in the winner's circle again," Ames said after his third PGA Tour win.

The win was worth $828,000.

Clark has earned the most career money without a win on the PGA Tour.

Scott Verplank (71) joined Robert Gamez (68) and Tag Ridings (70) in third place at 14-under 274.

Verplank’s chances were spoiled by bogeys on two of the last three holes.
