Memphis had a three-point lead to start the fourth quarter, but the Spurs opened the period on an 11-2 run. The game was tied in the final minute before Ginobili put the Spurs in front for good on a layup with 32 seconds remaining.

The Grizzlies' Rudy Gay was then called for an offensive foul and it became a free-throw shooting contest after that with Ginobili coming through down the stretch.

Tim Duncan and Tony Parker both scored 17 points for San Antonio, which won at home over Portland Tuesday night.

Pau Gason led Memphis with 22 points, but the Grizzlies lost their home opener for the seventh straight year. The game marked the head coaching debut for Memphis' Marc Iavaroni.
