NEWARK, N.J., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Jay Pandolfo notched his first career hat trick Wednesday while pacing the New Jersey Devils to a 6-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
New Jersey broke a four-game losing streak with the victory, the first in its new arena -- the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Tampa Bay, which got a goal from Vincent Lecavalier, has lost three straight.
New Jersey's Martin Broadeur made 21 saves in support of the offensive onslaught.
The Devils scored twice in a two-minute span of the second period to take a 2-0 lead. John Madden converted a pass from Dainius Zubrus for a score, and 1:48 later, Pandolfo finished off a two-on-none break with Madden to beat Tampa Bay goaltender Johan Holmqvist.
Lecavalier got the Lightning within 2-1 late in the second period but the Devils responded with a four-goal onslaught in the third.
Aaron Asham deflected a Patrik Elias shot with 12:46 to make the score 3-1 and then Pandolfo scored again midway through the period. Zach Parise chipped in a power-play goal with 6:36 to go before Pandolfo collected his first hat trick with a goal with 1:20 to go.
