DENVER, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Ryan Smyth had a goal and an assist Sunday afternoon, as the Colorado Avalanche beat Minnesota, 3-1, to stay unbeaten at home.
Smyth's fifth goal of the season began the scoring at 8:29 of the first period. Colorado later got Marek Svatos' fifth goal in the second, and Wojtek Wolski (power play) scored his fourth in the third.
Joe Sakic assisted twice, and goalie Peter Budaj stopped 21-of-22 Minnesota shots, as the Avalanche won their third straight game.
Colorado has won nine of the last 16 meetings between the teams.
Minnesota's lone tally was scored by Eric Belanger, whose fourth goal of the season created a 1-1 tie in the first.
Goaltender Josh Harding gave up three goals on 30 Colorado shots for the Wild -- who have dropped three straight and four of their last six, after winning their first five.
