Florida State athletics director resigns

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Dave Hart has resigned after 13 years as the athletics director at Florida State University.

His decision comes more than a year before his current contract was set to expire but he was informed earlier this year it wouldn't be renewed.

The Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat reported Friday among his achievements were building the nation's 15th-ranked sports program and overseeing a $125 million transformation of the school's athletic facilities.

"I will always be disappointed," Hart said at news conference Thursday. "It is best for Florida State to move forward."

Hart will sever ties with the school by year's end.

The newspaper added he will receive a lump sum of $475,000 from "private, discretionary funds" provided by International Sports Properties, the university's media promotion agency for athletics.

Reports said Hart receives an annual salary of $650,000.

Friday, William L. Proctor was named a special assistant to the president for athletics, a newly created post. A school official said Proctor will transition to interim AD.
