BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Matt Ryan threw two touchdown passes in the final 131 seconds Thursday night, rallying No. 2 Boston College to a 14-10 victory over No. 9 Virginia Tech.

It appeared the Eagles would become the latest highly-ranked team to be knocked off in a wild college football season, but they staged an improbable comeback to keep their national title hopes alive with an 8-0 record.

With Virginia Tech having held the Eagles in check throughout a rainy evening, Ryan drove his team 92 yards and hit Rich Gunnell with a 16-yard touchdown pass with 2:11 remaining.

Gunnell barely got one foot in bounds in the end zone.

The Eagles then recovered an onside kick and marched 56 yards to the winning score. Moments after having a 14-yard scoring pass negated by a holding penalty, Ryan eluded a Virginia Tech rush and found Andre Callender in the back of the end zone with a 24-yard throw.

Ryan completed 25-of-50 passes for 284 yards, and was intercepted twice.

Virginia Tech (6-2) scored in the second period on Sean Glennon's eight-yard throw to Eddie Royal. Jud Dunlevy added a 44-yard field goal in the third.
