Chakvetadze reaches Linz quarters

LINZ, Austria, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze easily reached the quarterfinals of the Generali Ladies Linz Wednesday with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Francesca Schiavone.

Chakvetadze, ranked seventh in the world and a semifinalist at the U.S. Open, reached the quarterfinals for the 14th time this season.

Dinara Safina also earned a quarterfinal berth by eliminating Karin Knapp, 6-2, 6-2.

Nicole Vaidisova, the fifth seed, came from behind to defeat Flavia Pennetta, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), and Eleni Daniilidou moved on when Tatiana Golivin retired in the second set with a knee injury.

Tamira Paszek, who at age 16 reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open this year before falling to Chakvetadze, was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Anabel Medina Garrigues.
