
OCEANPORT, N.J., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Lawyer Ron, winner of the Whitney and Woodward Handicaps, was established as a 5-2 favorite for Saturday's Breeder's Cup Classic at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.
The draw for post positions for the 11 Breeders' Cup races, set for Friday and Saturday, was made Tuesday. The highlight of the two-day event is the $5 million Classic, with nine horses entered in the 1 1/4-mile race.
Lawyer Ron, with John Velazquez up, drew the inside post starting position with Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense in the No. 2 spot. Street Sense and Preakness winner Curlin, which goes off from the fourth position in the Classic, both saw their odds set at 3-1.
Any Given Sunday, 4-1, drew the No. 3 post slot while Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun, 8-1, is to be in the eighth position. Tiago, at 12-1, was given the far outside spot.
Also entered in the Classic are George Washington, in the fifth spot; Awesome Gem, starting from the sixth position; and Diamond Stripes, at the seventh position.
