BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Matt Flynn tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd with one second left Saturday night, as fifth-ranked LSU beat No. 19 Auburn, 30-24.
The Tigers (7-1, 4-1 SEC), who were the nation's No. 1 school before a triple-overtime loss last week at Kentucky, nearly wasted a chance at the end in this contest, but Byrd's circus catch in the end zone helped them avert disaster.
Flynn completed 22-of-34 passes for a career-high 319 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception.
Jacob Hester, Keiland Williams and Byrd all caught scoring passes, while Early Doucet caught seven passes for 94 yards.
Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox went 18-for-28 for 199 yards with two touchdowns.
Brad Lester gained 63 yards on 16 carries, and Montez Billings had one score on six receptions for 79 yards, as Auburn (5-3, 3-2) had its four-game winning streak broken.
