NHL: Philadelphia 3, Carolina 2 (OT)

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Simon Gagne scored his second goal of the game just 48 seconds into overtime Saturday night, as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2.

Philadelphia's Mike Richards scored the third goal. Daniel Briere had two assists and goaltender Martin Biron made 42 saves on 44 Carolina shots for the Flyers, who have won five games in a row, including all four on their first home stand in the new season.

Carolina's Eric Staal and Justin Williams scored one goal apiece. Goalie John Grahame was beaten three times on 30 Philadelphia shots, as the Hurricanes suffered their second straight loss.

On the power play, both clubs went 1-for-4.
