MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Patrick White passed for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday afternoon, as seventh-ranked West Virginia defeated Mississippi State, 38-13.
White rushed for 89 yards and passed for 61. Steve Slaton ran for 127 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown, and caught four passes for 36 yards for West Virginia (6-1).
Mississippi State's Wesley Carroll passed for 169 yards on 18-of-35 attempts, and Anthony Dixon ran for 61 yards and a touchdown, as the Bulldogs (4-4) lost for the third time in their last four games.
The Mountaineers erupted in the first quarter to build a 28-0 lead.
