NHL: Colorado 5, Columbus 1

DENVER, Conn., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Joe Sakic recorded his 15th career hat trick Saturday night to help the Colorado Avalanche beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-1.

Sakic scored once in the first period and twice in the third.

Colorado's Milan Hejduk scored twice, and Wojtek Wolski had two assists.

Goaltender Peter Budaj stopped 24-of-25 Columbus shots, as the Avalanche won for the second time in their last three games.

Columbus got its only goal from Rostislav Klesla at the 1:24 mark of the second period.

Goalie Pascal Leclaire was beaten five times on 26 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have lost two of three.

On the power play, Colorado was 2-for-7, and Columbus went 0-for-5.
