NFL: Philadelphia 16, N.Y. Jets 9

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- David Akers kicked three field goals Sunday afternoon to help the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Jets, 16-9.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb threw for 278 yards, one touchdown and one interception, completing 22-of-35 passes.

Running back Brian Westbrook helped Philadelphia overcome a plethora of injuries with 20 carries for 120 yards, while wide receiver Kevin Curtis scored once on five catches for 121 yards -- as the Eagles (2-3) improved to 8-0 all-time against the Jets.

New York quarterback Chad Pennington was just 11-for-21 for 128 yards with one interception.

Thomas Jones rushed for 130 yards on 24 carries, and Mike Nugent booted three field goals for the Jets’ only points.

New York sank to 1-5 with its third straight loss.
