DALLAS, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The father of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is dealing with prostate cancer.

The Dallas Morning News Friday reported 50-year-old Ramiro Romo learned he had the illness late last season when his son developed into an NFL starting quarterback.

"He's your dad,' a worried Tony Romo told the newspaper after practice Thursday.

"Tony and his dad, they really have a good relationship," said tight end Jason Witten. 'I don't think he wants Tony to think a lot about it or want him losing his concentration. But they’re best friends, so that makes it harder."

The report added Ramiro Romo is supposed to have surgery, but details of his diagnosis were not available, and a surgery date was not disclosed.

Tony Romo said he expects his father to be in the stands at Texas Stadium in Irving when unbeatens Dallas and New England clash Sunday afternoon.
