Rivers leads NFL weekly honorees

NEW YORK, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers was among the players earning NFL player of the week honors, the league announced Wednesday.

The four-year veteran from North Carolina State was selected the AFC's top offensive player for the second time in his career after passing for two touchdowns and 270 yards with a career-best 151.4 passer rating in the Chargers' 41-3 rout of Denver.

He was joined in the AFC by Pittsburgh cornerback Ike Taylor (defense) and Houston placekicker Kris Brown (special teams).

The NFC honorees were Washington quarterback Jason Campbell (offense), Arizona cornerback Rod Hood (defense), and Dallas placekicker Nick Folk (special teams).

Brown equaled an NFL record with three field goals of 50-plus yards (54, 54 and 57) in the Texans' 22-19 victory against Miami.

Folk booted a 53-yard field goal as time expired Monday night as the Cowboys edged the Bills, 25-24, at Buffalo. It was the longest game-winning field goal with no time remaining by a rookie kicker in league history.
