TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The Arizona Cardinals signed quarterback Tim Rattay Tuesday to replace Matt Leinart, who has been placed on injured reserve with a broken collarbone.
Leinart, the team's top pick in the 2006 NFL draft, was hurt in the second quarter of Sunday's 34-31 victory over the St. Louis Rams. Backup Kurt Warner led a second-half comeback.
Rattay started two games in 2006 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played in 32 games with the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2005. He set career highs with the 49ers in 2004, when he started nine games and completed 198 passes for 2,169 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 36 career games, the Phoenix native has completed 417 of 687 passes for 4,689 yards with 28 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
Rattay signed with the Tennessee Titans as an unrestricted free agent prior to the 2007 season. He spent training camp with the team before being released Sept. 1.
