SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- John Cunliffe scored once in each half Saturday night as Chivas USA beat Real Salt Lake, 3-2, in an MLS contest at Salt Lake City.

With victory, the Goats (15-6-6) climbed back into lone possession of the top spot of the Western Conference, and moved to within three points of D.C. United in the race for the Supporters' Shield as the league’s top team.

Chivas has three games remaining in the season, the same as the Houston Dynamo, who play Los Angeles Sunday at home.

RSL (5-14-9) got goals from Chris Brown in the 52nd minute, and Robbie Findley in the 63rd minute, but already is out of the playoff picture.
