NHL: Nashville 5, Dallas 1

NASHVILLE, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- David Legwand scored three times Saturday night as Nashville beat the Dallas Stars, 5-1.

The veteran center recorded the second hat trick of his nine-year NHL career.

J.P. Dumont and Martin Gelinas scored once apiece, Martin Erat had three assists, Dan Hamhuis had two, and goalie Chris Mason stopped 28 of 29 shots as the Predators won their second straight game to open the new season.

Dallas got its only goal from Krys Barch at 13:14 of the third.

Goaltender Mike Smith gave up four goals on 21 shots.

Nashville went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Dallas was 0-for-8 with the man advantage.

The Stars have lost both games to open the new season.
