NFL: New Jersey 4, Florida 1

SUNRISE, Fla., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- John Madden scored twice to help New Jersey bedevil Florida, 4-1, ruining the Panthers' opening home game.

Andrew Greene and Mike Mottau also scored for the Devils, helping Brent Sutter to his first victory as an NHL coach. Sutter took over the team in the offseason.

Also for New Jersey, Kevin Weekes made 32 saves in the win.

Cory Murphy scored the only goal for Florida, which is now 0-2 at the start the season for the fourth time in its history. Tomas Vokoun made 18 saves in the loss.
