Tommie Harris' wife dies

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Abe Thompson scored twice late in the second half Saturday night to help FC Dallas beat the Crew, 3-1, in an MLS contest at Columbus.
Thompson scored the tie-breaker in the 86th minute, and added an insurance tally in the 89th minute as the Hoops secured their place in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
The win guaranteed FC Dallas (13-11-4) a place in the top eight, making it the fifth team to secure a spot in the MLS post-season.
Columbus got the contest's initial goal from Eddie Gaven in the 31st minute, but did not score again.
The Crew (7-11-10) saw their faint post-season hopes fade after the fourth loss in their last five games.
