Report: Marion Jones admits steriod use

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Marion Jones, who won five track medals at the 2000 Olympics, reportedly has admitted using steroids prior to that competition.

The Washington Post said Thursday that Jones plans to plead guilty on Friday to two counts of lying to investigators concerning her drug use.

The report also said Jones sent a letter to close friends and family admitting she had used steroids.

The International Olympic Committee could demand the return of the medals she won in Sydney, where she became one of the most heralded athletes in the history of the Games.

Jones won both the 100 and 200-meter events in Sydney and was a member of the United States' winning 1,600-meter relay team. She won a bronze medal in both the long jump and the 400-meter relay.

Although linked with steroid use in the past, Jones has, until now, steadfastly denied using performance enhancing drugs.
