WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- A tearful Marion Jones pleaded guilty Friday to lying to federal officials and then announced that her track career was over.

Jones, winner of five medals at the 2000 Olympics, admitted lying when testifying during a federal investigation into a San Francisco drug laboratory that has been linked to several athletes.

The New York Times reported that as part of a plea-bargain arrangement, Jones is expected to testify against her former coach Trevor Graham at his trial in San Francisco later this year.

"It is with a great amount of shame that I stand before you and tell you that I have betrayed your trust," Jones said outside the courtroom Friday, tears running down her cheeks.

"Making these false statements to federal agents was an incredibly stupid thing for me to do, and I am responsible fully for my actions. You have a right to be angry with me."

Jones had previously denied using performance-enhancing drugs. The International Olympic Committee is expected to ask her to return the medals she won at the Sydney Games -- golds in the 100, 200 and 1,600-meter relay along with bronzes in the long jump and sprint relay.
