NHL: Phoenix 3, St. Louis 2

PHOENIX, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Mike York and Daniel Winnik scored 12 seconds apart in the third period Thursday night and Phoenix fought off a St. Louis comeback bid to down the Blues, 3-2.

Phoenix had been protecting a 1-0 lead since midway through the first period when York put a wrist shot past Manny Legace with 12:42 remaining in the third.

Moments later, Winnik tipped in a rebound to give the Coyotes a 3-0 lead.

Keith Tkachuk finally produced a St. Louis goal less than a minute after Winnik scored and Brad Boyes cut the Blues' deficit to one goal on the power play with 6:43 remaining.

St. Louis was unable to capitalize on a two-man advantage over the final 1:06.
