NHL: Columbus 4, Anaheim 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Rick Nash and Sergei Federov scored first-period goals Friday night as Columbus topped the Anaheim Ducks, 4-0.

Nash added a second goal at the 7:53 mark of the third and also assisted on Federov's tally, while Ron Hainsey scored a power play goal at the 11:48 mark of the third to cap the scoring.

Blue Jackets goalie Pascal Leclaire saved all 26 shots he faced as Columbus won its season-opener.

Goaltender Ilya Byzgalov was beaten four times on 37 shots as the defending Stanley Cup champion Ducks suffered their second loss in the season's first week.

On the power play, Columbus went 2-for-10, and Anaheim was scoreless in seven chances.
