DEERFIELD, Ill., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Former Chicago Bears player Shaun Gayle's pregnant girlfriend was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Deerfield, Ill.
Rhoni Reuter, 42, was found killed in her apartment at the Deerfield Crossing complex after police received a report of a screaming woman at the residence, The Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
Police said Gayle came forward after the shooting to inform investigators that he was dating Reuter and was the father of her unborn child.
"Gayle is assisting police in the investigation and is not considered a suspect," Deerfield police said Thursday in a statement.
Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis said at a Thursday news conference that he does not believe members of the community are in danger from whoever killed Reuter, the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald reported Friday.
"There's no reason to believe a suspect is still in this area," Sliozis said. "There appears to be no imminent danger."
Gayle played defensive back for the 1985 Bears team that won Super Bowl XX .
