NHL: Montreal 3, Carolina 2 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Saku Koivu scored a power-play goal 65 seconds into overtime Friday, giving Montreal a 3-2 decision over Carolina.

Niclas Wallin was called for cross-checking 46 seconds into the extra period and Koivu quickly capitalized -- taking a pass from Michael Ryder and beating Cam Ward over his left shoulder.

Koivu also scored at 9:31 in the third to tie the game at 2-2.

Cristobal Huet stopped 29 of 31 shots for the Canadiens, who got two assists from Andrei Markov.

Bret Hedican and Erik Cole scored for Carolina.

Montreal defenseman Roman Hamrlik played in his 1,000th game.
