
SEATTLE, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Jamie Burke and Jose Lopez homered Sunday to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-2 win over Texas.
Burke hit a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game, 1-1, while Lopez extended the Mariners lead to 4-2 with his solo shot in the seventh.
Felix Hernandez (14-7) pitched 8 2/3 strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight.
J.J. Putz notched his 40th save after pitching to the final batter in the ninth.
Losing pitcher A.J. Murray (1-2) gave up four runs on five hits over six innings.
The Rangers took an early 1-0 lead on David Murphy’s RBI double in the first. The Mariners came back in the second on Burke’s first home run and a throwing error on a bunt by Ichiro Suzuki that allowed Willie Bloomquist to race home.
Seattle added a third run on a squeeze bunt in the fifth by Burke.
Texas added their second run in the fifth on a ground-out by Ramon Vazquez with runners on second and third.
