Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DENVER, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Garrett Atkins drove in a go-ahead run and Brad Hawpe hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth Sunday, as the Colorado Rockies beat Arizona, 4-3.
The win -- coupled with San Diego’s 11-6 loss to Milwaukee Sunday -- forced a one-game playoff between the Rockies and the San Diego Padres Monday, for the last remaining NL splayoff spot.
Troy Tulowitzki got on base in the eighth on a throwing error by Arizona’s Mark Reynolds. After Tulowitzki took third on a single by Matt Holliday, reliever Bill Murphy walked Todd Helton to load the bases.
With no outs, Atkins brought in Tulowitzki, and then Hawpe delivered Holliday and Helton.
The Diamondbacks got two runs back in the ninth, but the Rockies held on for the win.
