KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Travis Hafner drove in two runs with a double Sunday night to lead the Cleveland Indians past Kansas City, 4-2.

Hafner’s two-out drive to left field put the Indians ahead, 2-0, in the third inning, while Aaron Laffey (4-2) and Joe Borowski (45th save) kept the Royals at arm’s length.

Joey Gathright and Tony Pena drove in the Royals’ two runs, while Luke Hochevar (0-1) took the loss in his first big league start.

Chris Gomez drove in a run in the top of the fifth inning with a ground-out that put Cleveland ahead, 3-0

The Royals responded with RBIs by Gathright in the bottom of the fifth and Pena in the seventh to pull to within one run.

The Tribe added an insurance run in the ninth on a double by Ben Francisco, and returned to Cleveland to prepare for the opening round of the American League playoffs against the New York Yankees.
