CHICAGO, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez had three hits Sunday, to claim the American League batting title and help power the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox, 13-3.
Ordonez ended the season hitting .363 and became the first Tiger to win the batting title since Norm Cash in 1961.
The Tigers had more than enough hits Sunday, as they out-hit Chicago 18-9 and had home runs from Carlos Guillen and Mike Rabelo.
Nate Robinson (9-13) gave up three runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings, while White Sox starter Jose Contreras (10-17) went 6 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits.
Detroit broke open a 4-3 game with seven runs in the seventh inning. Guillen and Marcus Thames each smacked two-run doubles in the frame, while Sean Casey knocked a run-scoring single and Rabelo drove in a pair with his first home run.
Josh Fields drove in two home runs for the White Sox in the fifth with his 23rd home run of the season.
