
NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Lastings Milledge homered twice and John Maine carried a no-hitter through seven innings Saturday, as the New York Mets clobbered the Florida Marlins 13-0.
Maine (15-10) yielded one hit -- an eighth-inning infield single by Paul Hoover -- and finished with two walks and 14 strikeouts.
Milledge hit a two-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fifth. Teammate Ramon Castro hit a solo homer in the sixth.
Three Mets had two RBI each, and three players had three hits -- including David Wright, who extended his hitting streak to 16 games -- as New York stopped a five-game losing streak.
The Mets finished the day tied for first place with Philadelphia, after the Phillies to the Washington Nationals, 4-2, Saturday afternoon.
The loser was Chris Seddon (0-2).
There was a benches-clearing brawl in the fifth inning when Florida catcher Miguel Olivo threw a punch at New York shortstop Jose Reyes. Olivo was ejected by third-base umpire Ed Hickox.
