
CINCINNATI, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Rich Hill and two relievers combined on a one-hit shutout Saturday afternoon as the Chicago Cubs beat Cincinnati, 4-0.
Hill (11-8) yielded one hit in six scoreless innings, while Sean Marshall and Scott Eyre held Cincinnati hitless in the final three innings.
The only run Hill needed was a solo homer by Matt Murton in the top of the first. Chicago also got a solo homer from Ronny Cedeno in the second, and one RBI each from Geovany Soto and Felix Pie.
Soto had three hits, while Pie and Murton had two each as the NL Central Division champion Cubs got their second win in a row.
Buck Coats got Cincinnati’s only hit, a two-out double in the sixth.
Losing pitcher Aaron Harang (16-6) yielded four earned runs and nine hits in eight innings, with one walk and a career-high 13 strikeouts.
