Hewitt ousted from Mumbai tournament

MUMBAI, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Lleyton Hewitt was ousted Friday during quarterfinal action of the $416,000 Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open in India.

Hewitt was dumped 6-3, 7-5 by Rainer Schuettler. Schuettler is to face eighth-seeded Olivier Rochus in Saturday semifinals. Rochus advanced from Friday’s play when Nicolas Kiefer retired from the match because of illness.

The other semifinal pits top-seeded Richard Gasquet against a player he called a childhood idol -- Fabrice Santoro. Gasquet had little trouble in defeating Stefan Koubek 6-2, 6-4 Friday. Santoro, seeded fifth this week, was another straight-set winner, ousting fourth-seeded Jarkko Nieminen 6-3, 6-4 in a small upset.

The tournament finals are set for Sunday with the winner collecting $65,850.
