
MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols hit a homer and drove in his 100th run of the season Wednesday, helping St. Louis defeat Milwaukee 7-3.
Milwaukee missed a chance to gain ground on division-leading Chicago in the National League Central and remained two games behind the Cubs with four to play.
St. Louis had only a 3-2 lead going into the eighth, but broke things open with a four-run inning that began with Milwaukee pitcher Seth McClung hitting Pujols with a pitch. Both McClung and Milwaukee Ned Yost" class="tpstyle">Manager Ned Yost were kicked out of the game and Derrick Turnbow came on in relief.
The Brewers' bull pen fell apart with So Taguchi's two-run double highlighting the inning.
Carlos Villanueva (8-5) took the loss, giving up three runs over six innings. The win went to Brad Thompson (8-6), who allowed two unearned runs in six innings.
