SEATTLE, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Jeff Clement's homer tied it in the ninth and Mike Morse singled in the winning run in the 10th Wednesday as Seattle rallied for a 3-2 win over Cleveland.
Seattle prevented the Indians from sweeping a doubleheader and widening their lead in the race for the best record in the American League.
Cleveland began and ended the night a half game in front of Boston for home-field advantage in the American League playoffs.
The Mariners were down to their last out in the ninth when Clement hit a 1-0 pitch out to center off closer Joe Borowski.
Aaron Fultz (4-3) came on in the bottom of the 10th and gave up a one-out walk to Ben Broussard. Jose Guillen then singled Broussard to second and Broussard gave way to pinch-runner Rob Johnson.
After Adrian Beltre flew out, Morse hit Fultz' first pitch into center, scoring Johnson.
Seattle closer J.J. Putz (5-1) pitched the top of the 10th to get the win.
Cleveland won the opener 12-4.
