DETROIT, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Mike Hessman, Ryan Raburn and Mike Rabelo all drove in two runs Wednesday as Detroit won a rain-shortened game against Minnesota 9-4.

The contest was halted in the top of the sixth inning.

Detroit, last year's American League champion, was eliminated from playoff contention Wednesday when the New York Yankees defeated Tampa Bay.

Tim Byrdak (3-0) threw two scoreless innings to get the victory. Jair Jurrjens started the game for the Tigers, but did not return after the first rain delay in the fourth inning.

Nick Blackburn (0-1) took the loss in the first decision of his career. He gave up six runs in two innings.

Johan Santana had pitched at least five innings in 123 straight outings, but that streak ended when he, too, left the game after the first rain delay.

No one had come to bat in the fourth when the game was halted for one hour and 18 minutes. The second delay began with one out in the sixth and the game was called 30 minutes later.

Detroit overcame a 4-0 deficit and took the lead in the fourth on Hessman's lead-off homer.
