PITTSBURGH, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Micah Owings and three relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout Thursday afternoon as Arizona belted the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-0.

The rookie right-hander also helped himself at the plate with four hits and three RBI.

Arizona's Scott Drew had two runs, three hits, one a solo homer in the top of the first, and three RBI.

Eric Byrnes and Tony Clark both drove in one run, with Clark hitting a solo homer in the fifth, and Augie Ojeda had three runs and two hits as the NL West-leading Diamondbacks averted a three-game sweep.

Owings (8-8) was a last-minute starter because Brandon Webb was scratched because of light rain and cool weather conditions at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park.

Relievers Tony Pena, Dustin Nippert, and Yusmeiro Petit completed the shutout.

Nyjer Morgan and Jack Wilson had two hits each for the Pirates, who are last in the NL Central Division.

The losing pitcher was starter John VanBenschoten (0-7).
