The 6-foot-2, 262-pound middle linebacker from Thomson, Ga., had 21 tackles, including one in the final seconds of an upset win at Georgia, in four games for the 3-1 Gamecocks this season.

A first-team All-SEC selection in 2006, Brinkley was on the preseason watch lists for both the Butkus Award, given to the nation's best linebacker, and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, for college football's best defensive player.
