Mike Tyson enters guilty plea

MESA, Ariz., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson pleaded guilty Monday to felony drug possession and driving under the influence in Arizona.

Tyson had previously pleaded innocent to the same charges in Maricopa County, Ariz., Superior Court but changed his plea as part of a deal with prosecutors, the Mesa, Ariz., East Valley Tribune reported.

The judge set a Nov. 19 sentencing date on which Tyson could be sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for the the narcotics possession and six months in jail for the DUI.

His lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, told the newspaper that the former boxer has been sober for 72 days.
