CARY, N.C., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Mark Wiebe Sunday shot a final round 5-under 67 to win the Champions Tour’s SAS Championship at Cary, N.C. by three shots.
Wiebe, who turned 50 earlier this month, became the first player in three years to win his first start on the Champions Tour and the 12th overall. He is the first player to win his debut while playing on a sponsor's exemption.
“I'm speechless,” Wiebe said. “I've been hitting the ball nice and playing some nice golf the last couple of months, so the playing didn't surprise me, but the score surprised me a little bit.”
Dana Quigley (69) was second at 15-under 201. Keith Fergus (67) and Bruce Lietzke (67) tied for third at 13-under 203 and Mark McNulty (67) was fifth at 12-under 204.
