LONDON, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Lee Westwood Sunday shot a closing 7-under-par 65 to win the British Masters Golf Tournament at Wisham, England, by five shots over Ian Poulter.
Westwood held a one-shot lead over Poulter at the 16th hole, then made a 40-foot birdie putt and an eagle at the 17th to settle the issue.
Westwood began the final round two shots behind overnight leader Mark Foster.
“Over the last three weeks, I feel I should have won a tournament,” Westwood said. “I’ve had three top ten finishes, so felt good coming here and confident. It’s a course I enjoy playing because of the Ryder Cup and I’ve played very solidly.”
It was Westwood’s second victory this season, and 18th on the European Tour.
His winning total was 15-under 273.
Poulter (70) was second at 10-under 278, with Foster (73) third at 9-under-par 279.
