MLB: N.Y. Mets 7, Florida 6 (11 inn.)

MIAMI, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- David Wright hit an RBI single in the top of the 11th inning Sunday afternoon, as the New York Mets edged the Florida Marlins, 7-6.

Wright’s second hit of the contest broke a 6-6 tie. New York’s Carlos Delgado had two hits, including a three-run homer in the eighth.

Paul Lo Duca added a two-run homer in the fourth, while Moises Alou also had two hits, as the NL East-leading Mets won for the third time in the four-game series.

The winner was Joe Smith (3-1).

Scott Schoeneweis, the last of nine pitchers the Mets used in the game, recorded his second save.

Starter John Maine walked two and fanned nine in five innings.

Florida’s Jeremy Hermida and Todd Linden both had two RBI. Two others had one RBI each for Florida.

Hermida and Dan Uggla both had three hits, while Linden and Hanley Ramirez had two for the Marlins, who have dropped seven of 10.

The losing pitcher was Harvey Garcia (0-1).
