Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Brad Hawpe had four hits and two RBI Saturday night as the Colorado Rockies beat San Diego, 6-2, for its seventh straight victory.
Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins had one RBI each, and two runs scored on Mike Cameron’s eighth-inning fielding error. Atkins and Troy Tulowitzki both had two hits as the Rockies won for the eighth time in their last 10 games.
The winner was reliever Ryan Speier (2-1).
San Diego scored on Khalil Greene's solo homer and Brian Giles' bases-loaded walk, both in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Bard had a run and two of the five hits for the Padres, who fell 2 ½ games behind NL West-leading Arizona.
The losing pitcher was reliever Jack Cassel (1-1).
