NFL: Patriots tape case now closed

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The New England Patriots have handed over Coach Bill Belichick’s library of videotapes, the National Football League says.

The league released a statement Thursday saying its investigation into Belichick’s taping of other teams’ defensive signals is now closed, The Boston Herald reported.

“The Patriots have fully cooperated and complied with the requirements of the commissioner’s decision,” the statement said. “All tapes, documents and other records relating to this matter were turned over to the league office and destroyed, and the Patriots have certified in writing that no copies or other records exist.“

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has penalized the coach with a $500,000 fine and the team with a $250,000 fine and the loss of its first-round draft pick next year. Belichick violated an NFL rule banning teams from making videotapes from the sidelines during games.
