Report: Gibbons meets with MLB officials

BALTIMORE, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Baltimore outfielder Jay Gibbons met with Major League Baseball officials to discuss shipments of steroids and human growth hormone he received in the mail.

The seven-year veteran made his first and what he said would be his only comment on the issue in Wednesday’s Baltimore Sun. "I met with major league baseball representatives (Tuesday), and was happy to answer all of their questions,' he told the newspaper.

Sports Illustrated.com reported recently Gibbons was among the clients of Orlando-based Signature Pharmacy, which was raided earlier this year.

Rick Ankiel of St. Louis, and Toronto’s Troy Glaus also were named in the investigation.

The report added the shipments occurred from October 2003-July 2005, and were sent to Gibbons' home in Gilbert, Ariz.

Gibbons is out for the balance of the season with a left shoulder injury.

The Orioles placed him on the 60-day DL Aug. 13, and he already has undergone surgery..

This season, Gibbons batted only .230 with six homers and 28 RBI.
