KOLKATA, India, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Vania King posted a straight-set upset Tuesday of top-seeded Marion Bartoli in the first round of the $175,000 Sunfeast Open tennis tournament in India.

Bartoli, the runner-up this year at Wimbledon, was one of three seeded players to lose Tuesday but her 6-1, 7-5 defeat at the hands of King was the biggest surprise.

Fifth-seeded Alla Kudryavtseva was ousted by Tatiana Poutchek, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 9 seeded Yaroslava Shvedova dropped a 7-6 (8-7), 6-7 (8-10), 6-1 decision to Tzipora Obziler.

Also winning first-round matches Tuesday were: Sofia Arvidsson, Sunitha Rao, Akgul Amanmuradova and Anastassia Rodionova.

The winner of Sunday's Sunfeast open title match will collect $25,855.
