MLB: Kansas City 4, Cleveland 3

CLEVELAND, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Billy Buckner went six innings for his first major league win and Emil Brown had three hits and two RBI Sunday as the Kansas City Royals edged Cleveland, 4-3.

Buckner (1-1) allowed one run on five hits, walking one and striking out three for the Royals, who won for just the second time in 11 games.

Reliever Joakim Soria came on to get the final four outs for the Royals to pick up his 15th save of the year.

Mark Teahen and John Buck added an RBI each for Kansas City.

Victor Martinez homered for the Indians, who lost for just the fifth time in 22 games. Cleveland holds a five-game lead over second-place Detroit in the AL Central.

Cleveland opens a three-game series at home with the Tigers Monday.

Aaron Laffey (3-2) surrendered four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings for the loss.
